Visual Comparison Model for Transportation Data of Great Britain

Abstract

It is a known fact today that, globalization has increased the population around the world and more so in the urban areas. As a result the public transportation system has developed at a fascinating pace around the world. This has led to a vast amount of transportation data and now researchers and experts are digging in to find new ways to improve it further. Few applications have been developed recently to simulate real time traffic, which help in modeling new routes and provide better traffic management plans. Also, many mobile applications are being developed to help public plan their journey and access real time schedule of a service arrivals and departures. In this study, we use the Transportation Data of Great Britain and visually compare the changes and trend it underwent over past few years. We try to answer; to what extent the transportation network has directly impacted the population and job distribution in major cities of Great Britain. We provide flexible search queries, allowing users to interact with different aspects of city geography and dynamically see the changes in transportation structure from past years. Finally, we present a series of case studies to show how our model aids users to interpret the changes tranporation system has undergone, which otherwise are difficult to notice.
