UH Voices to Sing National Anthem at Dec. 1 Texans-Patriots Game

UH’s ManCorps Invited to Perform During Pre-Game Festivities

Former University of Houston football star Case Keenum has been trying to lift his current team, the National Football League’s Houston Texans, out of its losing streak. He has a tough task ahead of him Dec. 1 when he faces perennial Super Bowl contenders, the New England Patriots. Before the game, however, Keenum may find inspiration from the Cougar voices delivering the National Anthem.

At the request of the Houston Texans,  UH men’s choir, ManCorps, will deliver the pre-game performance of the National Anthem. Directed by Jeb Mueller, UH Moores School of Music assistant professor, 18 members of ManCorps will perform before the noon kickoff at Houston’s Reliant Stadium. The game will air on CBS (Houston affiliate – KHOU 11).

“It's always an honor to sing our National Anthem, but to do so in front of 70,000 at Reliant Stadium, one of the finest sports venues in the country, is great fun,” Mueller said. “ManCorps is a dedicated group of men, and we'll make the University of Houston proud.”

“We are all so excited,” added Jake Woodson, ManCorps singer and freshman music education major. “It's such a great opportunity for us as an ensemble. We'll get to support our local team and former Cougar Case Keenum.”

Based in UH’s esteemed Moores School of Music, ManCorps was founded this year and includes both music and non-music majors. The group performs at concerts and events on campus and in the community. For audiences wanting to hear more ManCorps, they can hear the group during “Joy To The World,” a holiday-themed concert at UH. The show will also feature the Moores Concert Chorale and other UH vocal ensembles. “Joy To The World” kicks off at 2:30 p.m. in UH’s Moores Opera House.
