AWARD-WINNING STAFFER HONORED BY PEERS
Laura Wade Recognized For Long, Distinguished Career
HOUSTON, May 14, 2007— After 18 years in research administration,
an associate director of the Texas Center for Superconductivity
at the University of Houston (TCSUH ) can now add “award-winning”
to her resume.
Laura Wade received the Distinguished Service Award this month from
the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA).
Wade oversees the administrative functions for one of the largest
superconductivity institutions in the nation, and is responsible
for preparing and submitting grant proposals for more than 200 faculty,
researchers and students from several science and engineering departments.
The center researches new high-temperature superconducting materials
and their application to the nation’s electrical, medical,
transportation and communications needs.
Colleagues at research institutions lauded Wade’s integrity,
leadership and dedication to the profession in nominating her for
the award.
“(Wade) has always stepped up to the plate when she was needed,”
an administrator at Texas Christian University’s office of
research wrote in a nomination letter.
Wade has remained active throughout her 18-year career, including
serving as president of the NCURA and presenting educational and
training workshops to fellow research administrators from throughout
the country.
She also is a certified accountant and has a master’s degree
in business administration. Before coming to Houston, Wade worked
as a research administrator at universities in Galveston, Dallas,
San Antonio and Arlington.
