INPRINT-BROWN READING SERIES CELEBRATES
25TH ANNIVERSARY
WITH HELP FROM UH CREATIVE WRITING PROGRAM
The University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program (CWP)
was instrumental in launching the Inprint-Brown Reading Series 25
years ago. To celebrate the series’ silver anniversary, members
of CWP’s acclaimed faculty will participate in an evening
of literary readings at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 24 in downtown
Houston’s Alley Theatre.
This event is open to the public. Admission is $5 and free for
students and seniors.
Participating CWP professors include Robert Boswell, Chitra Divakaruni,
Nick Flynn, Kimiko Hahn, Tony Hoagland, Ruben Martinez, Antonya
Nelson, Robert Phillips, Claudia Rankine, Adam Zagajewski, Daniel
Stern and Mark Doty.
“Readings are a wonderful way for audiences to discover new
writers,” said Doty, creative writing professor and award-winning
author. “There's nothing like hearing the writer’s own
voice to help listeners enter into the world of a poet, novelist
or non-fiction writer's work. All of these authors are members of
the Houston community, so this is a chance to hear some of the most
energetic and powerful writing coming out of this city right now.”
In addition to helping start this local reading series, UH’s
CWP also helped found Inprint, Inc., a nationally recognized non-profit
organization dedicated to the literary arts.
