ART STUDENTS AT UH GAIN EXPERIENCE, EXPOSURE
IN MASTERS THESIS EXHIBITION
Graduation is fast approaching, but before University of Houston
School of Art students bid farewell to their classmates and professors,
they’ll greet local art aficionados with an exhibition of
their works.
The 2006 School of Art Masters Thesis Exhibition will feature graduate
art students’ sculptures, paintings, photography, digital
media and graphic communication pieces. It is open to the public
April 14 – 29 in Blaffer Gallery, the Art Museum of the University
of Houston.
A free public reception will celebrate the exhibition’s opening
at 7 p.m. Friday, April 14. This event will be held in conjunction
with the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at UH’s
presentation of the Neo-Futurists’ play, “Too Much Light
Makes the Baby Go Blind,” which begins at 9 p.m. in Dudley
Recital Hall.
Participating student artists are completing their Master of Fine
Arts (MFA) degrees in art at UH, which is the only university in
the region to offer this program. UH is also one of the few institutions
where art students’ works are shown in a professional gallery,
an opportunity that provides valuable experience and exposure.
“This exhibition allows students’ art to be seen by
the community, as well as critics and arts administrators,”
said Cathy Hunt, graduate adviser for UH’s School of Art.
“It also provides them with an understanding of the many processes
involved with an exhibition.”
