DEM FRANCHIZE BOYZ, GRUPO MAZZ AMONG HEADLINERS
AT UH’S FRONTIER FIESTA
College Festival Features Free Concerts, Entertainment, Wide Array
of Activities
HOUSTON, March 22, 2006 – Hip hop, Tejano, country, Latin
and rock. Just as the University of Houston’s student body
is admirably diverse, so are the bands scheduled for the university’s
2006 Frontier Fiesta
March 30 – April 1.
The annual student-sponsored event will feature Grammy-winner and
Tejano favorite Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz, SoSo Def/Virgin recording
artists Dem Franchize Boyz, Latin band LT5, and country acts Reckless
Kelly and the Randy Rogers Band. Also featured is the winner of
a UH battle of the bands, rock band Feeding James.
Frontier Fiesta and its concerts are free and open to the public.
The scheduled acts, except for Dem Franchize Boyz, will perform
in Fiesta City, a scenic recreation of the old west located in the
parking lot of UH’s Robertson Stadium. The Boyz will take
the stage on Friday, March 31, in UH’s Hofheinz Pavilion.
Tickets for this concert are required. They are free and will be
available in Fiesta City at 7 p.m. the evening of the performance.
This year’s concert schedule:
- March 30 – 9 p.m. LT5; 10 p.m. Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo
Mazz
- March 31 – 10 p.m. Dem Franchize Boyz
- April 1 – 8:30 p.m. Feeding James; 9 p.m. Reckless Kelley;
10:30 p.m. Randy Rogers Band
A tradition since the 1940s, Frontier Fiesta was once called “The
Greatest College Show on Earth” by Life magazine. In addition
to concerts, the event showcases student-produced Broadway-style
variety shows, carnival booths, cultural and educational performances,
living historical exhibits and a world-class cook-off.
“Frontier Fiesta is a student-driven event, but it has something
for everyone,” said Brian Sellen, chairman of the Frontier
Fiesta Association. “Not only is this a longstanding UH tradition,
but it’s a community tradition as well.”
