ROMANTIC RECITATIONS AT HEART OF UH’S
‘LOVE AND HONORS’
Valentine’s Day will start a little earlier for some couples.
The University of Houston’s Poetry & Prose reading series
presents “Love and Honors,” an evening of romantic readings
on Monday, Feb. 13.
The event will feature readings from published poets Sybil Estess,
John Harvey and Peter Hyland, as well as Honors College students.
It will be held in the Honors College Commons on the second floor
of the M.D. Anderson Library. Admission is free and complimentary
refreshments will be available.
“We say that poetry is the language of love,” said
William Monroe, executive associate dean of the Honors College and
professor of English. “The connection makes sense because
both love and poetry are rhythmic, demanding and sensual.”
Estess is the author of a new book of poetry, “Blue, Candled
in January Sun.” Harvey is a member of the college’s
faculty and has published work in The New Republic, The Gettysburg
Review and Gulf Coast Magazine. Hyland, a student of UH’s
Creative Writing Program, has been published in American Literary
Review and Gulf Coast Magazine.
The Poetry and Prose Reading Series is coordinated by UH Libraries
with cooperation from UH’s Creative Writing Department and
the Honors College. Poetry and Prose readings are held three times
a semester.
