NEW CREATIVE WRITING STUDENTS INTRODUCED
AT UH’S POETRY & PROSE READING SERIES
The University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program (CWP)
will show off some of its latest student finds during the upcoming
edition of UH’s Poetry & Prose Reading Series.
Four incoming CWP students were selected by the program’s
faculty to read their works during the event, which begins at 5:30
p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the M.D. Anderson Library’s Honors
College Commons.
“This is our way of introducing these new students to the
community,” said J. Kastely, director of CWP. “We select
two poets and two fiction writers to offer a sample of the quality
and interests of the students who are arriving at this university.
Scheduled readers are poets Paul Otremba and Brian Nicolet and
fiction writers Sophie Rosenblum and Mike Jones.
Each year, CWP faculty members select four new students for the
November edition of Poetry & Prose. Students are selected based
on the variety of their writing styles to effectively represent
CWP’s wide range of talent.
“This is one of the best Poetry & Prose readings for
people to enjoy because of these students’ level of energy
and excitement,” Kastely said.
The Poetry & Prose Reading Series is held three times a semester
and is coordinated by UH Libraries with cooperation from CWP and
The Honors College. All readings are free and open to the public.
