FILL’ER UP: WORLD OIL SUPPLY SUBJECT
OF UPCOMING UH-GEMI CONFERENCE

Does the world have enough oil? It depends who you ask.

Some vehemently argue that the supply is more than adequate. Others believe just as passionately that a serious shortage is inevitable.

Representatives from both sides of the issue will convene during the University of Houston’s Global Energy Management Institute’s (UH-GEMI) conference “Global Energy Outlook: Stresses & Strategies” on October 25.

Luis Giusti, senior adviser for Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and former chairman and CEO of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), will present the luncheon address, “Perspectives on Evolving National Oil Companies (NOC) and International Oil Companies (IOC) Relations.” Giusti will discuss the roles and relationship that these organizations have in the evolving industry.

The morning session, “Is There a Crisis?,” will be moderated by Richard Loomis, president of World Energy Magazine. Matt Simmons, chairman, Simmons International and author of the book “Twilight in the Desert: the Fading of Saudi Arabia’s Oil;” Michael Economides, UH professor of chemical engineering and author of the book “The Color of Oil;” and Jaime Spellings, general manager of corporate planning at ExxonMobil, will present. The afternoon session, “Emerging Strategies for Success,” will be led by Chris Ross, vice president of CRA International. This panel features Aubrey McClendon, chairman and CEO of Chesapeake Energy; Stephen J. Lowden, former senior vice president of business development for Marathon Oil Company; and a senior representative from Chevron Global Gas.

“There is a great debate going on about the world’s oil supply and availability,” said Zlatica Kraljevic, UH-GEMI’s events chair. “Experts representing different viewpoints will present their case, so that people can draw their own conclusions.”

For an agenda or to register, go to https://www.bauer.uh.edu/gemi/new/supply&demand.htm. General admission is $99. Government employees with valid identification will receive a 50 percent discount.
