UNIVERSITY STUDENTS DISPLACED BY HURRICANE
KATRINA
CAN ENROLL AT ALL UH SYSTEM INSTITUTIONS
Students enrolled at universities unable to open because of Hurricane
Katrina are being accepted at all four University of Houston System
(UHS) institutions.
“In order to accommodate students from universities affected
by Hurricane Katrina, we are opening our classrooms and our campuses,”
said Donald Foss, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs at
UHS. “Such a disaster should not interrupt the studies or
the lives of students, so we are doing all that we can to help others
move forward.”
The Texas Coordinating Board of Higher Education today approved
the UH System program making many of these students eligible for
in-state tuition rates. UH is waiving the application fee and hopes
to waive other internal fees. Limited housing accommodations at
UH are available.
The UH System consists of four universities: UH,
UH-Clear Lake, UH-Downtown
and UH-Victoria.
Those wishing to enroll at UH should visit the Admissions
Office in Ezekiel Cullen Building, Room 129. Parking can be
arranged at the Visitor Information Center at Entrance 1 (near University
Drive at Calhoun Road). Hours are from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday,
Sept. 1, and Friday, Sept. 2. Extended hours are available Saturday,
Sept. 3, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Regular business hours will
be observed after the Labor Day holiday. Students will be directed
to the appropriate offices (housing, financial aid, advising,) as
appropriate.
To expedite the process, students should bring these documents
from their home institutions, if available: student identification
card; class schedule; letter of acceptance; student aid report from
Financial Aid; and official or unofficial transcripts.
If applicable, students seeking financial aid should add UH to
their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application.
This can be done by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov
and entering UH’s code 003652 as an institution to receive
their FAFSA application.
