NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF HEALTH LAW TEACHERS CO-HOSTED
BY UH LAW CENTER’S HEALTH LAW & POLICY INSTITUTE,
BAYLOR COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Houston Law Center’s Health Law & Policy Institute will unite to co-host the 29th Annual Health Law Teachers Conference June 2-4.

The conference is intended for professionals who teach health law or bioethics in schools of law, medicine, public health, health care administration, pharmacy, nursing and dentistry. It is coordinated with the sponsorship of the American Society of Law Medicine and Ethics (ASMLE).

The annual program, with approximately 130 attendees from across the United States this year, encourages participants to share strategies and ideas concerning the issues at the forefront of law and medicine. Updates on matters such as health care cost and access, Medicare policy, medical research and criminal issues in health care are among the topics being discussed.

According to Joan H. Krause, Program Chair and Co-Director of the Health Law & Policy Institute, the conference will include two key plenary sessions: the Jay Healey Memorial Session on Teaching Health Law, which will address, “Is All That Glitters Gold in Our Newly Wired Classrooms? The Uses and Abuses of Technology in Health Law Teaching," and a panel on “Medicine, Science and the War of on Terror.”

Other weekend highlights are a poster session and the presentation of the Jay Healey Teaching Award. The award is presented for distinguished teaching in the field of Health Law as recognized by the peer group of health law teachers across the United States. “The award is given in honor of the late Jay Healey, a distinguished and beloved health law teacher,” said Krause.
