GRADUATE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK AT UH OFFERS
SEMINARS
FOR NON-VIOLENT COMMUNICATION
The University of Houston’s Graduate School of Social Work
(GSSW) is sponsoring two days of workshops to encourage communication
skills through a process called Nonviolent Communication. Featured
speaker Christine Dove will teach skills for effective communication
for social workers and other professionals on Friday, May 20, in
a workshop titled “Being The Change.” Dove will present
a second workshop titled “Being Family” for parents
and child-care providers on Saturday, May 21.
Dove’s 39-year career in mental health and social work has
led her to her current position as director of the Institute for
Conscious Connection where she offers workshops, practice groups
and psychotherapy for individuals or couples.
The GSSW is sponsoring the workshops in collaboration with the Decade
of Nonviolence-Houston organization, which was inspired by the United
Nation’s “Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence
for the Children of the World” initiative.
“The GSSW’s whole mission is about peace and social
justice,” said Amy Blakeney with the school’s Office
of Continuing Education. “This is a perfect opportunity to
merge continuing education with the peace and social justice movement.”
Cost for each workshop is $49 for non-students and $24.50 for students
registering before May 9. After May 9, the price is an additional
$10.
