Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts
Taking Collaborative Projects to Houston Art Houses
After a semester of developing cutting-edge productions, three
groups of University of Houston students are now ready to take them
out of the classroom and present them in local art houses.
The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at UH is debuting
three productions developed during its inaugural course, “Collaboration
Among the Arts,” which teams student artists, actors, musicians
and writers.
The center is an alliance of UH’s Blaffer Gallery, School
of Theatre, Moores School of Music, School of Art and Creative Writing
Program and was made possible by a $20 million grant from George
and Cynthia Woods Mitchell.
“The ability to experiment across the artistic platforms
will provide new energy to our nationally-recognized programs,”
said Sidney Berger, director of the School of Theatre and the center’s
first executive director.
“Bread and Circus”: This video project
explores the unique relationship between the performer and audience.
