AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURE CELEBRATED AT UH WITH A LITTLE ‘CHICKEN SOUP’

Author Lisa Nichols will read and sign copies of her book “Chicken Soup for the African American Soul” as part of Black History Month observances at the University of Houston. The event, sponsored by the Urban Experience Program and the Counseling & Psychological Services, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3 in the Cullen Performance Hall. Refreshments will be served before Nichols’ presentation.

Nichols is the founder and president of “Motivating the Masses,” a self-esteem workshop for adults, and of “Motivating the Teen Spirit,” a comprehensive program for teen self-development. She is a self-proclaimed motivational speaker and advocate of personal empowerment.

“I know that we are built from strong roots, but this book was an amazing reminder of both how strong and determined we are,” said Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

After her reading, Nichols will be available to sign copies of her book. Books will also be available for sale.

Parking is available in Lot 1B, Entrance 1 at University Blvd. and Calhoun for a $2 charge and at the University Hilton Hotel for $7.
