STUDENT CHAPTER OF NAACP KEEPS HOUSTON
BEAUTIFUL
WITH BLOCK CLEANUP PROJECT
Students from the UH chapter of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will bring trash bags, lawn
mowers and eager spirits as they clean, cut and hedge a one-block
area on the perimeter of the campus. The group has adopted the block
on Scott Street from Wheeler to Gertin through the Keep Houston
Beautiful Program and will be cleaning up from 10 a.m. to noon,
Saturday, Dec. 4.
“It is our community and we have to take care of what belongs
to us and our families,” said Ben Woods, president of the
UH chapter of the NAACP. “To have no litter where people play,
work and go to school is beneficial all around because it provides
a safe and clean environment.”
The clean up crew will meet at 9:45 a.m. in the Subway parking
lot on Scott Street. This event is the first of at least four clean
ups scheduled throughout the coming year.
