BOOK BY INSTRUCTOR AT UH AFRICAN AMERICAN
STUDIES PROGRAM MIXES THEOLOGY, ACTIVISM AND POLITICS IN COLLECTION
OF SERMONS
Aswad Walker, instructor in the UH African American
Studies program and pastor of Houston’s Shrine of the Black
Madonna #10, will sign copies of his new book, “Weapons
of Mass Destruction and Other Sermons for a New World Order,”
5:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 9 in room 628 of Agnes Arnold Hall.
Walker’s text is a collection of 11 sermons on issues such
as universal health care, prison reform, the war in Iraq, women’s
rights and environmental protection, and is drawn from his experiences
as a community and religious leader.
Walker teaches a course on The Black Church in America for the
UH African American Studies program. He will speak prior to the
signing.
The event is free and open to the public.
