Reading Series: Edward P. Jones
The Margarett Root Brown Houston Reading Series, co-sponsored
by Inprint and the University of Houston, begins its 24th season
with Pulitzer Prize winner Edward P. Jones reading from his novel,
“The Known World,” followed by interviews and book
signings. Edward P. Jones Reading, 7:30 p.m., Sept. 13. Alley

Lecture: “The Idea of Freedom,
1900-2004”
Eric Foner, DeWitt Clinton Professor of History at Columbia University,
will speak on the topic, “The Idea of Freedoom, 1900-2004.
This free event is co-sponsored by the Project for the Active
Teaching of History (PATH), the UH Department of History, UH College
of Education, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and Region IV Education
Service Center. Lecture: “The Idea of Freedom, 1900-2004.”

The Conrad Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management and

Jessica Stockholder, Kissing the Wall: Works, 1988-2003
Reception for Blaffer Gallery’s latest exhibit, Jessica
Stockholder, Kissing the Wall: Works, 1988-2003. Stockholder's
work fuses found objects ranging from construction materials to
furniture and textiles to discarded household items, as well as
more conventional art making items, into works of art that blur
the boundary between painting and sculpture, object and environment,
decorative beauty and practical use. The exhibit will run through
