Friends of the Houston Public Library

Saturday, October 23, 2021

10:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Friends processes and scans books culled from Houston Public Library branches and donated by the community. They sell these books at our affordable quarterly book sales and all year-long on our Amazon storefront. They also recycle any damaged books through Waste Management and offer others to local artists like the ever-creative Lee Steiner of Domestic Papers. They offer book donations to partner organizations all year long, and especially when we have a surplus of books.

We will be meeting at 9:00 am in front of the Student Center South by the Help Desk. We will be leaving the UH campus by 9:15 am.

Volunteers can do several things such as processing books for book sale, preparing shipping of books for online sale, and checking books for damages in case some books must get recycled.

Friends of the Houston Public Library requires volunteers to wear masks. They will provide hand sanitizer, gloves, snacks, and water. You are welcome to bring your own lunch, they have a space for you to keep it. They recommend everyone wear comfortable clothing with closed-toe shoes because it gets warm in the Library Warehouse.

The volunteering event will be from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. We will be returning to campus by 1:30 pm latest.

You’ll receive a reminder email prior to the event containing more information, and if you have any questions, please contact Sandra Tzul at mvpce@central.uh.edu
