Task Force Groups Addressing Mental Health and Agnes Arnold Hall
University of Houston President Renu Khator has established two task force groups that will explore best practices for campus mental health and wellness and the future of Agnes Arnold Hall. She has appointed former interim provost Robert “Bob” McPherson as the chair of both groups. Members will include leaders from the University’s shared governance organizations—Faculty Senate, Staff Council and the Student Government Association—as well as mental health experts.

Dr. Robert H. Mcpherson
Robert “Bob” McPherson, professor of counseling psychology, has held numerous leadership roles during his four decades at the University of Houston. Most recently, he served as interim senior vice chancellor for academic affairs for the UH System and senior vice president for academic affairs and provost for UH from Aug. 1, 2022, through Jan. 31, 2023. He held the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Chair and served as dean of the UH College of Education from 2011 through July 2022, overseeing increased research activity, a transformation of the teacher education program, the launch of two additional Ph.D. programs and other academic gains.
McPherson’s other positions included interim associate provost for academic affairs and operations for UH at Sugar Land and at Katy; assistant to the vice chancellor for student affairs/dean of students; coordinator of Learning Support Services; and staff psychologist at Counseling and Psychological Services. In the College of Education, he also served as Ph.D. program director, department chair and executive associate dean.
Task Force for Mental Health
The Task Force for Mental Health will look toward future campus efforts to promote mental health and building a community of care and resilience. This task force is also charged with surveying the national higher education landscape and gathering best practices for mental health support on college campuses.

Agnes Arnold Hall Task Force
The Agnes Arnold Hall Task Force will consider all options regarding the future role of the facility and the ramifications of those options on UH’s academic delivery and university operations. This team will also consider alternatives to permanent closure that could possibly make the building available for use as early as the fall 2023 semester.
