Audition Information

Students seeking to apply to our programs after the posted deadlines may contact admissionskgmca@uh.edu to request admissions consideration for the Fall 2020 term.

Admissions into the University of Houston’s Dance Program is by audition only. Auditions are held each semester.

Students interested in majoring, minoring or working toward the dance certification may audition prior to being accepted into the University of Houston. However, prospective students will not be allowed to enroll into dance classes until they are accepted by the University and the Dance Program.

Registration

The following materials are required to register for an audition:

Completed Audition Form
SAT/ACT scores
GPA
For high school students, a school counselor’s signature is required to verify SAT/ACT scores and GPA on Audition Form

To register for a particular audition date, prospective students must complete an online audition application at least 1 day before their selected audition date. 

 

Location and Parking
Dance auditions are held on the University of Houston campus in the Cynthia Woods Mitchell for the Arts Building, Room 208. The building is located in the UH Arts District and also houses the Lyndall Finley Wortham Theatre.

Metered arts parking is available in UH Lot 16 (Zone B). For directions and parking information, visit http://www.uh.edu/kgmca/box-office/directions-parking/.

Audition Class
The audition is structured as a class, starting with ballet barre then center work and across the floor in modern/contemporary styles.
Students do NOT need to prepare choreography.
Please wear appropriate dance attire.

Parents Campus Tour

12 p.m.

Information Session
Faculty members give a 30-minute information session on the goals, curriculum and performing opportunities in the Dance Program followed by a Q&A for parents and students.

Dance Student Annual Orientation and Pizza Party

The first week of each fall semester, the Dance Program holds a mandatory orientation for all dance students. The meet-and-greet is a great opportunity to learn important information about the Dance Program and upcoming dance events. Mark your calendar!

When: First Wednesday of the fall semester at 4 p.m.
