Excitement fills the halls of a well-to-do German-Jewish family in 1939 Atlanta as middle-aged businessman Adolph, his sister Boo, shrewish sister-in-law Reba, and nieces Sunny and Lala decorate their “Jewish Christmas tree.” But when Adolph’s employee Joe, a charming young man and Eastern European Jew, drops by as the family prepares for Ballyhoo – the peak social event of the year – long-buried prejudices rise to the surface. The family is then forced to examine their own biases, beliefs and religious identities.
