Application Requirements and Acceptance Infomation
Applicants have the option of attending a live audition (video recorded for faculty review) or submitting a recorded audition (video file only). Letters of Recommendation are NOT required and should not be submitted.
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 – 30.
Faculty may give preference to applicants who have not already attended the festival for more than two consecutive years.
International applicants not already in the U.S. on an F or J visa valid through June 28, 2020 are required to apply for a J-1 visa to attend TMF. English proficiency is also required – all rehearsals, sectionals, lessons, master classes are held in English.
The TMF Faculty and Music Director will review all auditions and applications. We are not able to offer feedback on live or recorded auditions due to the volume of applicants.
Applicants will be notified of acceptance through Acceptd on or before Monday, March 16, 2020. Acceptance deadline is Monday, March 30, 2020.
All Orchestra Fellows are required to participate for the entire TMF Orchestral Institute (arrival on June 6 and departure on June 28) without absences. No leave of absence will be granted.
Orchestral Institute Fees
All fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and payable by credit card via Acceptd
Application Fee: $80 (due with TMF Application Form)
Tuition Fee: $0 (all Orchestra Fellows receive a fellowship that covers tuition and weekly lessons—valued at $3500)
Registration Fee: $400 (due with TMF Acceptance Form by March 30, 2020)
Housing Fee: $400 (due with TMF Acceptance Form by March 30, 2020). For Orchestra Fellows requiring housing and meals during TMF. Fee includes double-occupancy dorm room on-campus and three meals per day in UH cafeteria. NOTE: Orchestra Fellows who do not select this option are responsible for arranging their own off-campus housing and meals and must also have reliable transportation to/from campus.
DS2019 Request Fee: $250 (for Orchestra Fellows requiring J-1 visa to attend TMF. Due with TMF Acceptance Form by March 30, 2020). Fee includes DS2019 from the University of Houston, international express mailing costs, and health insurance, but excludes SEVIS, visa and any consular fees.
Security Deposit: All Orchestra Fellows are required to have a credit card on file while attending the Immanuel and Helen Texas Music Festival as a security deposit. Any charges against the Orchestra Fellow's account (lost music/books/keys, dorm room/equipment damage) will be charged to the credit card on file and the participant will be notified of any charges. In the event of unexpected departure or dismissal for any reason, $250 will be charged to the credit card on file, and the Orchestra Fellow may be charged for reimbursement of housing costs.
