Megan Woller teaches Popular Music in the Americas Since 1840 at the University of Houston.  She recently graduated from the University of Illinois with a Ph.D. in Musicology and a Graduate Minor in Cinema Studies. Her dissertation, “‘Happ’ly-Ever-Aftering’: Changing Social and Industry Conventions in Hollywood Musical Adaptations from 1960-75,” looks at seven case studies, exploring how film adaptations alter the source material and placing them into historical context. Her research interests include film music, musical theater, popular music, reception history, American classical music, and women in early music. Dr. Woller’s work on the film adaptation of West Side Story (1961) has been published in Studies in Musical Theatre. Her article, “The Lusty Court of Camelot (1967): Exploring Sexuality in the Hollywood Adaptation,” will appear in the Winter 2015 issue of Music and the Moving Image. She has presented her research at such conferences as AMS-Southwest, Society for American Music, Music and the Moving Image, and the annual Women’s and Gender History Symposium at the University of Illinois.
