Music Ambassadors - University of Houston

The Music Ambassadors are a dedicated group of students who work to represent the Moores School of Music to prospective students and other visitors.  Representing a wide variety of music majors, they guide visitors through tours, allow visitors to shadow accompany them and get a taste of classes, rehearsals, and just regular student life.  They are also on call as the School's foremost volunteers to give feedback or provide insight when the school wants a student's view.

  • Michelle


    Instrument: Voice
    Major: Performance

    Michelle is a Vocal Performance Major studying with Cynthia Clayton, with minors in German and Marketing. She is a member of the Moores School of Music Concert Chorale, and in 2013 she competed with them in the International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf, Germany. She is also a member of the student-led female acapella group, Acabellas, and is a member Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional music fraternity for women. Michelle spent the 2014-15 school year studying abroad in Lüneburg, Germany, in partial fulfillment of her German Minor. 

    This season Michelle is performing Yvette in Puccini's La Rondine and Jenny Slade in Robert Ward's Roman Fever. She has also been selected as the Soprano soloist in Mozart's Mass in C Major, "Coronation" with the Moores School of Music Symphony Orchestra and choirs. In 2016, she won the Herrenchor Award for the Houston Saengerbund German Vocal Competition and was also a finalist in the Madame Rose Palmai-Tenser Voice Scholarship Competition. After completing her degree, Michelle plans on pursuing a Masters degree to further her vocal studies.

  • Jessica


    Instrument: Flute
    Major:  Performance and Music Education (Instrumental)

    Jessica is a music education and flute performance major who studies flute with Peggy Russell. She is a member of the Moores School of Music Wind Ensemble and Concert Women’s Chorus.  She has been a part of the Spirit of Houston Marching Band for three years and served as a mascot for one year. Jessica is also a member of the all-female acapella group, Acabellas, as well as a brother of the Beta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. In the summer she worked as a counselor at Cougar Band Camp. After completing her degree, she hopes to either become a band director or pursue further education as a performer and teach at a collegiate level.

    Instrument: Voice
    Major:  Music Education

    Monica is a sophomore Music Education major at the Moores School of Music who currently studies voice with Dr. Lynda Keith McKnight. She is a member of the internationally acclaimed Moores School Concert Chorale under the direction of Dr. Betsy Cook Weber, and is also a member of the mixed pop a cappella group, Rhapsody. In her free time, she likes to read, spend time with her friends and family, and play video games. After her undergraduate, Monica hopes to become a high school choir director and eventually pursue further education as a choral conductor.

  • Martin


    Instrument: Clarinet
    Major:  Music Education (Instrumental)

    Martin is a sophomore pursuing his second bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the Moores School of Music, studying clarinet and bass clarinet with Chester Rowell of the Houston Ballet. He completed his first degree in Psychology at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He is currently the principal bass clarinetist of the University of Houston Wind Ensemble under the direction of David Bertman, as well as the bass clarinetist in the Moores School of Music Symphony Orchestra and Opera Orchestra, under the direction of Franz Krager. During the summer of 2015, he performed with the University of Houston Wind Ensemble at WASBE’s, (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) International Convention in San Jose, California, with the American premier of Leroy Osmon’s Ballet for Wind Band, The Garden of Earthly Delights. Martin continues to teach private lessons and master classes to clarinet and bass clarinet students in the Greater Houston area, teaching students who consistently make the District, Region, Area, and All-State levels. After completing his degree, Martin plans on becoming a middle school band director.

  • Bensen


    Instrument: Percussion
    Major:  Music Education (Instrumental)

    Bensen is a Music Education student at the Moores School of Music. He studies percussion under Dr. Blake Wilkins, and is involved with Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Steel Band, and The Spirit of Houston Marching Band. He is also studying composition under Dr. Marcus Maroney. After graduation, he hopes to become a band director, and eventually, an orchestral conductor.
