The Painting Area is located on the fourth floor of the Fine Arts Building, adjacent to the schools of Architecture, Theater, and Music.
Graduate Painting Studios
Graduate painters have 24/7/365 access to their own 225 sq. ft. private studio equipped with fume evacuation vents for solvent-based work.
Graduate Painting Computer Lab
Graduate students have access to a full computer lab including state of the art Macintosh workstations equipped with graphic, word processing, animation and editing software, and a large format inkjet color printer. Painting graduate students have additional access to digital cameras, a video camera, video projectors, sound equipment, and other A/V equipment.
Undergraduate Painting Studios
Junior and senior painting majors have 24-hour access to private and semiprivate studios during the fall and spring semesters of enrollment.
The Junior Painting wing is divided into private 100 sq. ft. studios, with a shared refrigerator, sinks, and a fireproof cabinet. Each studio is equipped with an easel, tabaret, table and stool, and curtain door closure. Junior painting is a non-solvent based material program.
The Senior Painting wing is a divided into 140 sq. ft. private and semi-private studios, with a shared refrigerator, sink, and a fire proof cabinet. Each studio is equipped with an easel, tabaret, table and stool, and curtain door closure. Senior painting is a non-solvent based material program.
Stretcher Building Shop
A 550 sq. ft. shop accessible to upper division undergraduates and graduate students in the painting area for construction of painting supports. Equipment includes a wall mounted chop saw and all necessary hand tools. Painting students also have access to a full shop in the Sculpture Area.
A 380 sq. ft. gallery space used for mounting individual Painting MFA Thesis exhibitions, and occasional special projects/exhibitions.
Critique Room: 540 sq. ft.
540 sq. ft. critique room used by all levels of the Painting area for display and discussion of studio program course work.
Four spacious, fully equipped 1,500 square foot, general purpose classrooms with high ceilings and dramatic skylights providing northern exposure for fundamental and intermediate level classes in painting, drawing and related arts.
