Ertan Torgul
Affiliate Artist in Violin

Throughout his career, Turkish-American violinist,Ertan Torgulhas enjoyed an eclectic and multi-faceted musical path. As recitalist, chamber musician, soloist, concertmaster and teacher he has toured around the world and collaborated with some of today’s best musicians and ensembles. As a soloist and guest concertmaster he has performed with numerous orchestras around the country including San Antonio Symphony for sixteen seasons.  

As violinist and serving as artistic and managing director of the Texas based contemporary group SOLI Chamber Ensemble since 1996, Ertan recorded six CDs and commissioned more than 100 new works from today’s most exciting composers. An avid chamber musician, he worked with Fry Street, Degas, ES and ROCO String Quartets and is a founding member of the Trio SUONO with pianist Aileen Chanco and cellist Jennifer Kloetzel, Quartet ES and Quinteto Quilombo, a group specializing in “Tango Nuevo”. As a founding member of the Florida based Plymouth Quartet, he was in-residence at the Ojai Festival, Mainly Mozart, Point Counterpoint and the Internationale Quartettakademie Prag-Wien-Budapest. 

In the United States Ertan continued his violin studies with William Barbini at California State University Sacramento and Professor Franco Gulli of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He further studied chamber music with Janos Starker, Norbert Brainin, members of Miami, and Guarneri Quartets. Ertan received Austria’s prestigious Prix Mercure, is a prize winner in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and a laureate of the Paolo Borciani International Quartet Competition. Ertan currently teaches as a lecturer of violin and chamber music at UC Santa Barbara.
