Retirement 101 - Don't Miss it

Gain a greater understanding of Optional Retirement Plans (ORP) and the Teacher’s Retirement System (TRS) plan benefits, including vesting and eligibility for continuing benefits after you retire.  Come learn about establishing TRS Service Credit, how TRS calculates your retirement benefits, and the impact to your benefits if you are employed after retirement.

Sessions will be led by HR’s Senior Benefits Coordinator, Deanna Holmes, on December 12 at 10:30 am in 341 McElhinney Hall. Register via PASS in AccessUH for course HRT039.

Holiday Open House

During the second week of December the University of Houston Weight Watchers at Work program invites you to attend a WW Holiday Open House for FREE!  The Open House will include hands-on activities to learn about myWW, plus an opportunity to score exclusive discounts, chat with an expert WW Coach and much more!  Join us Thursday, Dec. 12th, 12:15  – 1 PM in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, 2nd Floor Conference Room.  If you have any questions, please contact powerup@uh.edu.

community farmers' markets

While the UH Farmers Market had its season finale in November, the city and surrounding communities continue to provide opportunities to purchase produce and various hand-made crafts.

For example, The  Farmers Market Partners Missouri City occurs every Saturday through the Dec. 21st from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Fort Bend Annex (behind the library), 5855 Sienna Springs Way, Missouri City.  There will be local food trucks and wine tastings by local micro-winery, Houston Winery, and ErmaRose Winery, the area’s only fruit-based winery, utilizing locally grown fruits. join camp gladiator challenge

Looking to get fit?  Let 2020 be the year!  Starting January 6th, Camp Gladiator (CG) will offer any State of Texas (UH employee) that does not currently participate in CG an exclusive CG FIT Challenge.  The challenge includes 4 Weeks of Workouts and CG FIT for free ($286 value)!  Designed to boost strength, stamina and confidence, the program combines strength and cardio training that can help you build muscle, lose weight and feel better. instructors wanted!

Are you a physical fitness activity instructor?  Would you like to teach a class for your co-workers and friends on campus or know someone who would?  If so, contact POWER UP and let us know!  We’re hoping to provide different physical fitness opportunities for employees in the spring.  Currently we are seeking a Tai Chi instructor and Line-dancing teacher! In 2020, come get physical with us!

It’s the 44th year of the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout campaign, which encourages smokers to kick the habit. managing diabetes

More than half of all adults in Texas live with prediabetes or diabetes, according to a report from the American Diabetes Association. In fact, diabetes is one of the top chronic health conditions for UH employees system wide.  If you live with diabetes, you know that staying healthy means managing the condition every day.
