ON-CAMPUS NO-COST FLU SHOTS FOR ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES

Don’t put off getting your flu shot this year!  On Wed., Sept. 11, POWER UP Employee Wellness will host no-cost flu shot clinics for BCBSTX HealthSelect employee members.  Clinics will be held 10:00am- 1:00pm, on the main campus (MD Anderson Library, Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion); 12:00pm-1:00pm at the Sugar Land campus (AMG, Rm. 102); and 2:00pm-4:00om at the UH Technology Bridge (Bldg. 3,  Rm. 195).  

Register here!  You must register by end of day Fri., Sept. 6 and bring your photo I.D. and BCBSTX medical card to receive a flu shot.

HEALTHY CAMPUS WEEK

Beginning Monday, September 23, UH will host a Healthy Campus Week designed to encourage the UH community to move their bodies, eat healthy, and make time to practice self-care through different stress management strategies.

On each day of the week through Saturday, September 28, you will have the opportunity to join in on different wellness activities open to students, faculty and staff.

  • Monday:                Free yoga and Zumba Class
  • Tuesday:                Poker Walk*
  • Wednesday:          Teaching Kitchen (prepare and taste your creation!)*
  • Thursday:               Meditation Thursday
  • Friday:                     B-Cycle Rally*

ONSITE MOBILE MAMMOGRAMS

UH, in partnership with The Rose, will be hosting 3D/2D mammography screenings on campus Oct. 15 and 16, from 9:00 am -3:00 pm. Registration is now open!

Screenings are available to UH employees enrolled in the BCBSTX HealthSelect insurance (or other accepted insurance) with no co-pay or additional out-of-pocket expense. Screenings will be conducted in The Rose's state of the art mobile unit parked at Lot 19F between the Technology Annex and the Power Plant (near the M.D. Anderson Library).  REGISTER online using code: UH.   If you have difficulty, please call 281 464-5136 for help in making your appointment in English or Spanish. come zumba with us

Beginning Tuesday, September 10, weekly Tuesday and Thursday ZUMBA classes will be available to faculty and staff at no cost. No registration is required.  Just show up and join in!  Zumba is a high energy fitness program featuring aerobic movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance. The program is open to all levels of fitness. 

Join us from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm in the Melcher Gym, 2nd Floor, (next to the Charter School); enter at the south entrance, take the stairs and follow the signs to the gymnasium.

yogafit teacher training

Do you love yoga and have a desire to become a teacher? Deepen your practice and learn how to teach!  UH Clear Lake Recreation and Wellness Center will be hosting a YogaFit Worldwide Level 1 Foundation training September 14 and 15, from 8:00 pm - 6:00 pm in the CLRWC.  UH System employees are eligible for a 15% discount of the cost of the training.  Learn more at yogafit.com.  For complete details and discount, call 888-786-3111.

join the healthselect fitness program

The Fitness Program is a flexible membership program for employees and their dependents (age 18 or older) enrolled in BCBSTX HealthSelect or BCBSTX Consumer Directed HealthSelect plans. It provides access to more than 9,000 fitness centers nationwide. The monthly membership fee is $25, with a $25 one-time enrollment fee.  However, during the month of September, the $25 enrollment fee will be waived. (Membership can be canceled at any time with no penalty.)  Use code Septembersave when registering in order to have the fee waived. Learn more about the program and how to enroll here!

Join Weight Watchers for the Fall

A new 12-week series of UH WW (Weight Watchers at Work) will be held weekly onsite from Thursday, October 17 to Thursday, January 30 from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.  Membership is open to staff, faculty and students and provides weekly onsite workshops, program materials and access to online digital tools.  Registering during the first two weeks of October equals savings for you! With the special WW “Deal Days” promotion the cost will be discounted to $132.60 for the 12-week series (regularly $156).  Payments may be made in full by credit card or check, or in three separate checks of $44.20 each. Interested in jump-starting your physical fitness?  Camp Gladiator (CG) is an outdoor, full-body strength and conditioning program popular in the Houston area and beyond.  To celebrate its 11th year as a company, CG will offer 4 weeks of group fitness training to UH employees for $10! Visit the UH Farmers Market

This fall beginning in September, shop for locally sourced and produced food and other items at the UH Farmers Market!  Sponsored by Dining Services, the markets take place on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, and alternate between Butler Plaza and Lynn Eusan Park.  The first market of the semester will be Wednesday, September 18. A full schedule of dates and locations will appear on the Dining Services website soon.  Featured at the market are a growing number of vendors ready to cater to your shopping needs, so mark your calendars today!  Don’t forget; you can now use Cougar Cash and Shasta Bucks to make purchases!

TexFlex FSA Effective Date Update

Beginning September 1, 2019, all new hires or rehires who are subject to a medical coverage waiting period will also have a waiting period for a TexFlex Health Care or Limited Flexible Spending Account (FSA), if they enroll in one. The effective date of the health care or limited FSA will be the same as their medical coverage - the first of the month following the 60th day of employment. If the 60th day of employment falls on the first day of the month, the account will activate on that day.  The waiting period does not apply to the TexFlex dependent care account or commuter spending account.
