MESSAGE FROM DEAN HORN

All — Charles Bowden writes that “summertime is always the best of what might be.” I have been celebrating that idea as our Student Success team kicks off the next few months orienting new students and preparing them for the journey ahead. I notice with gratitude the many ways each of you, in every department and office, use your time and talent to support the success of others and nurture your own professional fulfillment.

I hope that you can also hold space in these next few months for the important work of resting. Our minds and bodies and souls depend on it. Thank you for modeling excellence in the ways you care for others and yourself!

Best,
Cathy

Associate Dean for Student Belonging and Success

  • Faculty Reminders
    • With the beginning of summer sessions, it’s a good time to look at any “Incompletes” you may have issued during summer 2023. According to University policy, the grade of “I” must be changed WITHIN ONE YEAR of the date awarded, or the grade will be changed automatically to “F” or “U” (in S-U graded courses).
    • Graduate Program Leads: Please work on updating your program handbooks for AY 24-25. Every graduate program should have an updated handbook on file with the Office of Graduate Student Success no later than Aug. 15. Find branded handbook covers on MyCOE/Communications.
  • Student Success Updates
    • Save the dates: Fall Graduate Student Orientation (Saturday, Aug. 10) and undergraduate Education Connection (Thursday, Aug. 15).

Business/Finance

  • Important! All purchases must be made by the following deadlines to close out fiscal year 2024:
    • June 21: Requisitions over $25K
    • July 5: Requisitions below $25K
    • July 12: P-Card purchases
    • July 19: State purchase vouchers/travel cards
    • July 26: Voucher submissions
    • These deadlines are two weeks before the UH purchasing deadlines to allow our team enough time to process all necessary purchases. We appreciate your cooperation!
