Today marks one week into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and I share the deep concerns of our world and campus leaders for those impacted by this ongoing conflict.
The events in Ukraine hit particularly close to home for the CLASS community. Our college has students and colleagues from the region, and we maintain an active dual-degree partnership with the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE). Last Thursday, KSE suspended classes indefinitely. While we have no college representatives on the ground, we are closely monitoring this situation and maintaining contact with our Ukrainian students and partners in Kyiv. Our commitment to this partnership is unwavering. We will work to restore this program when KSE returns to regular operations.
Every day, we are reminded that the effects of this conflict are not constrained to Ukraine or those in the region. Many of us are seeing these grim consequences ripple across the world in real-time through social media or in the news.
As you keep those directly affected by this situation in your thoughts, remember to take care of yourself. UH’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is here to support our community, and of course, you should always reach out to your fellow Cougars (whether that’s a colleague, classmate or co-worker) if you need a friendly voice of reassurance.
Sincerely,
