Shoppers at the UH Farmer's Market look through bags, jewelry, produce and more.

Faculty, staff and students shopped this week for homemade and homegrown wares without having to leave campus. If you missed the UH Farmer’s Market, mark your calendar to attend the event when it returns in February, March and April.

Professor to Lead ‘Best and Brightest’ Scientists, Researchers
Ganesh Thakur, distinguished professor of petroleum engineering, was elected the next vice president, and eventual president, of the Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, Science and Technology. He will help coordinate and guide the board of directors with strategic planning, programs and communication.

A new survey from the Hobby School of Public Affairs found widespread support for legislation that would upend Texas’ longstanding prohibition against most forms of gambling. The support crosses demographic and partisan lines.

Friday, Feb. 3
Susana Monteverde was among artists who helped realize Frank Stella’s monumental three-part mural, “Euphonia,” at the Moores Opera House in 1997. Hear her behind-the-scenes perspectives about the artist, the artistic process and the legacy of this mural, Friday, Feb. 3, from noon to 1 p.m. at Moores Opera House. This event is free.

Through his own words and music, audiences will get an inside look at the personal life and artistic process of famed songwriter Stephen Sondheim the weekend of Feb. 3 – 5 at Moores Opera House. Ticket purchase is required, and discounts are offered for faculty, staff and students.
