Former UH Basketball Star Commits $2M to Houston Rise
David Marrs, who played on the UH Men’s basketball team from 1972-76, pledged a $2 million gift to the Houston Rise campaign. Funds will support construction of the Football Development Center and updates to current facilities. 

Homecoming Spirit Bell Competition Winners Announced
Staff Council announced the winner of the annual Spirit Bell Competition, which challenges faculty and staff to show the most Cougar spirit by decorating their offices during Homecoming week. The C.T. Bauer College of Business Office of Undergraduate Business Programs fully embraced the “All Roads Lead Home” theme and received its name on the trophy and recognition at halftime during the Homecoming game.

Poll Finds Texas Republicans Gaining Ground
A poll released by the Hobby School of Public Affairs found Republican candidates are leading all statewide races by double digits. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is leading Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke by 13 percentage points in the final days leading up to the 2022 election.

Internships Gave Students an Edge in High-Tech Tools
A typical internship might involve shadowing experts in the field, but Kathryn Seastrand, pursuing an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, created a virtual escape room. Students in the College of Education’s learning, design and technology program had the opportunity to participate in innovative internships like Seastrand’s designed to address health disparities and other challenges through effective education and emerging technologies.

Get to know our UH police officers during this month’s Coffee with a Cop. The event seeks to connect officers with faculty, staff and students and create a partnership for campus safety. Attendees can ask questions, voice concerns and get to know campus officers from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Student Center South.
