College of Medicine Founding Dean to Retire 
President Renu Khator announced that Dr. Stephen J. Spann, vice president for medical affairs and founding dean of the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine is retiring after more than four decades in academic medicine. Spann joined UH in 2015, and under his leadership, the college received preliminary accreditation in 2020 and opened two clinics to bring high-quality health care to our underserved communities. 

UH Recognized as Fulbright Hispanic Serving Institution Leader 
UH has once again been named a Fulbright Hispanic Serving Institution Leader. The University is among only 46 institutions of higher education nationwide to earn this distinction. 

UH Secures $1.5M To Build Disaster Resource Tool for Houston’s Medically Underserved Communities 
UH researchers secured a $1.5 million grant from the National Academy of Sciences. They will develop a public health data system to address health equity challenges in Houston’s medically underserved neighborhoods in times of natural disaster.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning American classic by Thornton Wilder, “The Skin of Our Teeth,” opens this Friday. The play begins at 8 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 3, at Lyndall Finley Wortham Theatre.
