October 1 - 31 | 2020
This time of the year can be challenging, with midterms, events, meetings, etc. You may start to feel a little overwhelmed or like you're missing something. While homesickness can be a challenge, getting through it can be easier than you think.

1. Understand that what you’re going through is normal

With any rapid change, such as moving away from home to college, there comes a tough adjustment period. Feeling homesick is part of that. Once you understand that what you're experiencing is perfectly normal, then you can begin to work through it.

2. Make a home for yourself

One of the best ways to combat homesickness is to make your space feel like a home! Try decorating your room with items that represent who you are. Include a few of your favorite photos, and maybe some of your favorite inspirational quotes. Try cooking some of your favorite meals from home in the community kitchen!

3. Talk to someone

It's always helpful to share what you're feeling with someone else. Try getting involved in an organization. You might meet someone who's feeling homesick too. Remember that you can always talk to your Community Mentor. They're here to help you with anything you might need. If you'd rather talk to a campus professional, visit CAPS. They have great resources for students. Click here for more information.
