Deposits for all OGESP programs are non-refundable.
Voluntary Program Withdrawal
For students who voluntarily withdraw from a program prior to departure, partial refunds may be issued according to the following schedule. This schedule may vary according to program type and may be revised at the advice of the College Business Office in conjunction with the dean of the Honors College. Additionally, program fees paid directly to vendors may be subject to different refund policies. It is the responsibility of the student to know the refund schedule prior to committing to a program, as being indicated by the payment of a program deposit.

Involuntary Program Withdrawals
Trip cancellations due to natural disasters, including global health crises; acts of war; government-mandated travel restrictions; strikes, riots, or protests; embargoes; or other incidents where there is deemed a credible risk to students, faculty, or staff may be subject to additional refund restrictions and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Important Travel Notices
The Office of Global Engagement & Special Programs has been monitoring the progression of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) and will continue to do so in collaboration with the Office of Learning Abroad and UH Global. Rest assured, we prioritize the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff abroad and away, as well as that of our guides, vendors, and community partners with whom we work on-the-ground.
As such, the OGESP is following the University of Houston System’s guidance, which is to restrict all international and domestic travel until the end of Summer 2020. This includes all undergraduate faculty-led, affiliated, exchange, student service organization programs, sponsored scholarship, fellowship, or research opportunities abroad, and any other programs that would be considered international or domestic travel for curricular or co-curricular purposes.
This decision was not taken lightly. It came after careful and thoughtful assessment of local, national, and global developments resulting from the COVID-19 outbreak, and is in accordance with the Level 4 Travel Advisory (Do Not Travel) issued by the Department of State on March 19, 2020. It is, the University believes, the best and most responsible course of action.
Students have been encouraged to purchase travel insurance that includes a "cancel for any reason" option. Note that these policies may not cover COVID-19. If your flight is cancelled, you are entitled to a refund as per DOT law. You must call the airline and request a refund to the original form of payment, not a travel voucher.
