Cory Haala is a historian of modern U.S. politics and progressive activism, both in the Midwest and the national Democratic party. He teaches Honors College courses in U.S. history since the Civil War and on populism in American politics and history. Haala is currently writing a book on a resurgence of Democratic activism and organizing in the Midwest during the 1980s and has published chapters on the South Dakota Democratic party, the New Right in 1980s Iowa, and a forthcoming chapter on progressive farm policy in the 1980s and '90s.
