Carol Cooper joined the Honors College in fall 2019, teaching the Human Situation and political science courses. She has been teaching in the political science department of the University of Houston since 2017, where she teaches courses in political theory, ancient and medieval political thought and political ideologies. Before coming to UH, she spent many years teaching and working in Virginia and Washington, D.C. Cooper received her master’s and doctoral degrees in politics from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where she specialized in political theory and international relations. Her doctoral research dealt with the moral and political theories of Immanuel Kant and the other modern contract theorists. Recently, her research has focused on human rights and human dignity, political theology, and the intersection of politics and religion. Cooper has a chapter in press on the political theology of Hans Urs von Balthasar and its relevance for liberal education.
