Taking place at halftime of the football game, the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King has always been a central part of the celebration. From the presentation of the first crown to Mary Ray Curry in 1946 to the touchstone victory of the school’s first African-American Homecoming Queen Lynn Eusan in 1968, and through the emphasis on academic and service criteria that accompany the award today, the recognition of the Homecoming Court has evolved along with the University itself over the years.
The Homecoming Court will consist of ten students who serve as role models for the entire University. They must exhibit qualities such as leadership, character, communication skills, and creativity. The two candidates elected as the 2023 Homecoming Royalty are a positive representation of the University of Houston.
