Welcome to the pages of the UH Faculty Council website. Here, we hope you will find the informational resources you are looking for. Our goal when developing and managing this website is to bring under one umbrella a variety of links and resources that might impact the day-to-day work of a faculty member. Of course, we wish to also provide information on the workings of the faculty council itself and on all the proceedings and documents related to the council committees. In that sense, the council website is designed to be both “outward-looking,” that is, a resource for UH faculty and “inward-looking,” that is, a resource for faculty council members.

UH Together

Your Faculty Council members are already hard at work advancing priorities that matter to faculty across the university. The Faculty Engagement Committee and the Research and Scholarship Committee recently held their first meetings of the academic year, where committee chairs reviewed their charges, identified key areas of focus, and formed subcommittees to begin tackling important initiatives. These early conversations laid the groundwork for a productive year of collaboration, advocacy, and meaningful progress on issues that support faculty success and strengthen the university community. Looking ahead, the Curriculum Committee will hold its first meeting on 14 October, marking another exciting step as Faculty Council committees begin their work for the year. 

Each week, we will shine a light on a key SAM or MAPP policy that directly affects faculty. Our goal is to make navigating policies and procedures more straightforward and more transparent — because informed faculty make a stronger UH community.

This week, we are addressing a question submitted through Your Voice Matters about e-vehicles, including scooters and bicycles, on campus. The University has been working to improve micromobility management and safety through a variety of initiatives, including new signage, slow-down and dismount zones, designated parking areas, and campaigns that encourage device registration and responsible operation. To support these efforts, UH recently adopted updated micromobility guidelines that promote both safety and accessibility. MAPP 09.04.02, Micromobility (Bicycles and Scooters) on Campus, provides guidance on the registration, operation, parking, and removal of bicycles and scooters. The policy is designed to help maintain safe, accessible pathways while supporting the growing use of micromobility devices by students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Hosted by the UH Innovation Council, the event brings together students, researchers, and entrepreneurs from across the University of Houston and the Houston community. You’ll have opportunities to meet members of the UH innovation community, learn about resources including RED Labs, Tech Bridge, and the Innov8 Hub, and connect with potential collaborators and mentors.
