Welcome to the pages of the UH Faculty Council website. Here, we hope you will find the informational resources you are looking for. Our goal when developing and managing this website is to bring under one umbrella a variety of links and resources that might impact the day-to-day work of a faculty member. Of course, we wish to also provide information on the workings of the faculty council itself and on all the proceedings and documents related to the council committees. In that sense, the council website is designed to be both “outward-looking,” that is, a resource for UH faculty and “inward-looking,” that is, a resource for faculty council members.

UH Together

The minutes and recording from the September 16 Faculty Council meeting have been posted on the Faculty Council website and are available for review. We encourage all faculty members to stay informed about the topics discussed and ongoing initiatives by accessing these resources.

Faculty Council serves as a voice for the faculty, and your input is important. If you have questions, comments, or feedback about any of the meeting topics, please connect with your Faculty Council representatives. You may also share your thoughts, concerns, or suggestions through Your Voice Matters. Your input helps ensure your perspectives are represented in Faculty Council discussions.

Each week, we will shine a light on a key SAM or MAPP policy that directly affects faculty. Our goal is to make navigating policies and procedures more straightforward and more transparent — because informed faculty make a stronger UH community.

The University of Houston’s Faculty Workload Policy (MAPP 12.05.01) recognizes that faculty contributions extend beyond classroom teaching to include research, scholarship, student mentoring, professional development, and service to the university and the profession. The policy is designed to promote a fair and equitable distribution of workload while supporting UH’s mission as a research-intensive institution.  

Rather than applying a single teaching load to all faculty, the policy allows departments to tailor workload assignments based on instructional needs, research activity, service commitments, career stage, and the nature of a faculty member’s appointment. Workload is generally distributed across three areas: teaching/instruction, research/scholarship, and service. Faculty are encouraged to review the policy and discuss any questions or feedback with their department leadership or Faculty Council representatives.

Fall Faculty Celebration

This forum will keep you connected to developing strategic and operational initiatives and provide you with opportunities related to your research. VPR Claudia Neuhauser will provide a welcome and be available, along with the presenters, for a Q&A session toward the end of the session. Click here to register.
