Welcome to the University of Houston Faculty COUNCIL

Welcome to the pages of the UH Faculty Council website. Here, we hope you will find the informational resources you are looking for. Our goal when developing and managing this website is to bring under one umbrella a variety of links and resources that might impact the day-to-day work of a faculty member. Of course, we wish to also provide information on the workings of the faculty council itself and on all the proceedings and documents related to the council committees. In that sense, the council website is designed to be both “outward-looking,” that is, a resource for UH faculty and “inward-looking,” that is, a resource for faculty council members.

UH Together

OneDrive and SharePoint

UH was affected by a major Canvas breach and outage. No passwords were compromised, but the Education Innovation and Technology team is backing up course files and grade data from past semesters and setting up a process to securely back up current files and changes. These will be available on a website accessible by faculty. Additionally, a Teams shell is automatically created for each course, which faculty can activate during future outages (if any) to communicate and share materials. Instructions for faculty and students will be provided on a soon-to-be-launched website.

Core Curriculum Review

In accordance with State Senate Bill 37, a review of our core curriculum is underway. A Core Curriculum Working Group, led by Teri Longacre, Senior Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Student Success, includes faculty from various UH colleges and will draft initial recommendations this month. We thank the group for their leadership and efforts in this important work.

Please stay tuned for more information. More information can be found in the Provost Message.

Ongoing Professional Development

This summer, Faculty Engagement and Development (FED) is offering programs that support scholarly writing, international research opportunities, and innovative teaching practices. Faculty are encouraged to participate in these collaborative learning experiences throughout the summer.
