University of Houston staff members from the Facilities/Construction Management department attended the 2024 TAPPA Educational Conference and Business Partner Fair in San Marcos, Texas from April 7 – April 9.

This state-wide conference allows attendees opportunities to gain knowledge and become even more informed on topics related to facilities management. It also creates networking partnerships with facilities peers at other colleges and universities. This year’s UH attendees included Canon Wineriter, Janice Weyers, Rey Tajonera, Lloyd Grenard, Magda Brady, David Oliver, Jennifer Rea, Ampelio Juarez and Andrew Nguyen.

During the conference's business sessions, UH retiree Jim Norcom was honored to be an emeritus member. In addition, Magda Brady was elected to begin another two-year term for the TAPPA Board of Directors which begins May 1, 2024.

F/CM was also proud to have Jennifer Rea be a presenter at the conference on the topic, University of Houston: The Road Map used for APPA Excellence.  Attendees learned the steps taken by the UH Facilities/Construction Management department to apply for the APPA Excellence Award.

“It was exciting to present information to other institutions on how they can also be recognized for their excellence. After the workshop session, a few people stayed, and we discussed their best next steps for almost an hour,” said Rea.

Canon Wineriter, Janice Weyers and Ampelio Juarez were first-time attendees at the TAPPA Conference and gained new perspectives.

“TAPPA was great! Meeting the vendors and staff from the other universities was a great pleasure. We were able to gain knowledge and provide some of our knowledge to the other universities present,” said Sr Customer Relations Manager Janice Weyers. “I also felt Jennifer gave a great presentation. I was not aware of all that went into applying for APPA.”
