Facilities Management Works Through Weekend to Prep Campus for Freezing Temps - A Behind the Scenes Look

Preparation for the freezing temperatures started as early as this weekend as Facilities Management crews undertook specific strategies to help protect campus facilities and keep building environments comfortable.

Assistant Director of Facilities Management Michael Burriello reported that the HVAC crew, led by Jesse Gonzalez, FM HVAC/Mechanical supervisor, spent the weekend closing off/draining chilled water coils and closing outside dampers in numerous buildings including Fine Arts, Music, HSCA, S&R 2, SERC and Agnes Arnold. This same crew was on hand and back out on campus Monday morning by 6 a.m. continuing to help ensure facilities are protected and prepared for the extremely low temperatures.

Demond Williams and Josh Duke, FM building management system technical crew members, have been checking rooftops for potential leaks in SERC, SERC Classroom, Music, Fine Arts, HSCA and S&R 2. Burriello’s teams are working to ensure that the main Central Plant boilers, as well as other facility’s boilers, are operational and running at full load.

These efforts by Facilities Management crew members are designed and directed to helping ensure a comfortable and safe environment for building occupants.
