About FAMIS at UH

Plant Operations is deploying a university-wide Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) – FAMIS.

FAMIS will be used for facility management and will enable the implementation of on-demand service requests (via the web), scheduled maintenance, and asset management (including building systems, assets, and equipment). FAMIS will be used to track routine maintenance and repairs, housekeeping, ground maintenance, preventive work orders, life safety systems, building systems operation among other tasks. FAMIS will also be used for space management and will be used to determine space utilization, departmental space usage, identifying exceptions to space standards, finding vacancies, analyzing space efficiency, facilities reports, and providing supporting documentation of the UH F&A indirect cost recovery proposals.

FAMIS will provide the following benefits to the university:

  • A web-enabled work-order system that will allow a more efficient process of reporting and follow-up of work-orders.
  • Continuous improvement in facilities management efficiencies.
  • Provide facilities managers the information and tools necessary to become more proactive instead of reactive to facilities' requirements and enable better decision making.
  • Existing processes will become more efficient and streamlined, using standardized data that is shared across the university.
  • Improve safety and environmental planning capabilities, reducing risk from accident and regulatory compliance violations.
  • Disaster planning capabilities are significantly improved to reduce the potential for human injury or death in a disaster as well as to improve those required for operational recovery.
  • More efficient space utilization to achieve cost savings and potential reduction in asset inventories.
  • Reduction in moving and relocation activities resulting in greatly reduced relocation costs.
  • Data standardization across the university and the elimination of redundant information held by multiple organizations in various degrees of quality and accuracy.
  • Improved project planning leading to reductions in A&E, construction, and building maintenance costs.
  • Fast and accurate reporting on critical facilities information.
