Safety Programs
The safety of all members of the campus community is a primary concern of the University of Houston. Environmental Health and Safety is committed to assisting the University in identifying safety hazards and controlling such hazards through protective equipment and other hazard mitigation methods to ensure the safety of the campus community.
Most of the Department’s safety programs are focused on the University’s scientific laboratories as they present significant hazard potentials. There are specific programs addressing Radiation Safety, Environmental Protection, Chemical Safety and Biological Safety.
There is also a General Safety Manual that contains a number of safety policies not specific to the laboratory safety areas noted above.
The Department is a major training provider on campus, training over 1,000 members of the University’s staff, faculty and students every year. Both instructor-led and on-line training courses are used in the program. For more information see the Safety Training.
