Daniel Lopez is Making Great Strides in Professional Leadership

Daniel LopezDepartment of Educational Leadership & Policies Studies (DELPS) alum, Daniel Lopez always knew he wanted to help students. After researching several different universities, he knew the stellar faculty at the UH College of Education would help him achieve his goal.

Knowing that he wanted to help guide, model, and mentor students in their academic careers, he chose to pursue a degree in Professional Leadership, so he could study leadership practices and how they influenced professional learning communities. Angus MacNeil, DELPS associate professor became his advisor. “The time Dr. MacNeil spent with me and our cohort to guide, coach and mentor truly helped me stay focused on my growth and development,” says Lopez. “He bestowed wisdom throughout my doctoral studies which I will be forever grateful.”

Lopez is now the Executive Director of Student Support Services in Spring Independent School District. He credits the way his cohort was able to work and grow together to inspiring a community for professional and personal growth.

When asked for advice for future students, Lopez said, “Be a learner who continues to challenge himself throughout your time in college.  When the trying times come, as they will in your program of choice in your college, make sure you have surrounded yourself with people that will challenge, encourage and most of all be a support person though your program.”
