What is your current UH job and where do you work?
Student Graphic Designer in the department of Campus Recreation

How did you find your UH job?
Campus Recreation website

How long have you been at your current UH job?

About one year

What is the most rewarding part of your UH job? Have you learned anything from your job that you'll take with you after graduation?
I love working at Campus Recreation as it is directly related to my field of study and intended career path, which is graphic design. I definitely improved my design and software skills and that is something that I value most. I also get to meet and work with some of the most amazing people, and I am glad to have that opportunity.

How do you think your UH job has or is helping you prepare for full-time employment? What skills are you developing?
My job has helped me work on my time management skills and my interpersonal skills. Working at Campus Recreation requires me to work with a lot of different people on different projects with varying scopes. So I think that has helped me immensely in developing my team-working skills.

What is a typical day for you at your UH job?
As a graphic designer, I get a regular set of tasks to complete for the semester, such as making print materials to promote the Rec Center. But I frequently get to do special projects, such as designing the interior graphics for the Justin Dart Jr. Student Accessibility Center!

How do you balance school and work responsibilities?
I guess the simplest way to say it is that work is work and school is school. I don't think about work when I am at school, and I don't think about schoolwork when I am at work. I think it is very important to to allocate some time for rest, and so keeping that healthy balance between school, work and rest helps me stay productive.

Why did you choose the University of Houston?
I have a family member who graduated from the same program I am in now, and he recommended it to me. But apart from that I think UH has an extensive range of opportunities for me to get the most out of my undergraduate studies!

What are your career plans post graduation?
I hope to become a graphic designer for a company that would allow me to have creative freedom in my work!
