Kowalka named to ACUI Board of Trustees

Keith T. Kowalka, assistant vice president for student affairs, has been re-elected to serve on the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Board of Trustees.

Kowalka was re-elected as an at-large board member during voting by members in November. Kowalka and the other new members of the board will take office at the 2024 ACUI Annual Conference next March. Kowalka stated he is honored to be elected to the ACUI Board of Trustees.

“I am super excited to continue to serve with some amazing colleagues in the advancement of campus community building through the Association of College Unions International, and I am looking forward to continuing the experience and service. It is an exceptional honor to be elected by my peers to further enhance the community and lead the future of ACUI and the college union and student activities field,” Kowalka said.

Other new board members include Susan Pile at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Phillip Smith, Rutgers University, and President-Elect Ian Crone from the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Daniel Maxwell, interim vice president for student affairs remarked, “I am thrilled for Keith and proud of his service to ACUI and the student affairs profession. His engagement at this level will and continues to have an impact on the important work associated with student unions and student activities on college/university campuses across our nation.”

Kowalka has served ACUI in several volunteer roles, such as chair of the diversity, equity and inclusion program team, annual conference program team chair, annual conference member, I-LEAD (Institute for Leadership Education and Development) program team leader, regional director, conference program team chair, education and research fund team member, and numerous working groups.

Based on his service, ACUI recognized Kowalka with double honors in 2021, with the Butts-Whiting Award and Legacy Leader.
