Oct. 14, 2014 - The University of Houston Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life welcomed the new Lambda Delta chapter of the Sigma Kappa sorority. Sixty-six new initiates joined in the fall 2015 semester and the chapter received its charter in January at the Regional Leadership Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During the colonization week in October, the Sigma Kappa colonization team hosted a philanthropy event called #ENDALZ where women brainstormed potential philanthropy events for the new chapter’s first-ever Ultra Violet Campaign. Women at the event learned about the Sigma Kappa Foundation’s 30-year partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association. Every Sigma Kappa chapter holds its own Ultra Violet Campaign, and the new chapter will host its first Ultra Violet event in 2015. Additionally, this semester, Sigma Kappa will be participating in Frontier Fiesta for the first time as well as spring Panhellenic recruitment.
Sigma Kappa was founded in 1874 at Maine's Colby College and today has more than 156,000 members worldwide, 112 collegiate chapters in 36 states, and over 120 alumnae chapters. Its purpose is to instill the values of friendship, service, personal growth, and loyalty in its members.
