Mara's ability to build collaborative partnerships with faculty, academic deans, staff and students in her work enhances the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services contributions to supporting student success at the University of Houston.

During her time at the University of Houston, Mara has seen significant growth in the enrollment of new students and in the academic quality of the incoming class. A number of new initiatives have come to fruition since she has arrived. The implementation of a CRM for the UH System has allowed each campus to use technology to create and manage relationships with prospective students. UH is launching a scholarship management system to improve and increase the awarding of scholarships to its outstanding students. Enrollment Services played a huge role in developing and implementing the student business processes for the new College of Medicine. Ordering transcripts became fully automated allowing access 24/7 any day of the year, and services to Veterans have been streamlined substantially, decreasing the wait time for students to receive their benefits. Finding ways to improve services for students is a cornerstone to the work Mara is doing at the University of Houston.

Mara has more than 30 years of experience in enrollment services, with 20 of those years in senior leadership. She previously served as the director of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of California San Diego, where she managed and coordinated all components of the Office of Admissions and Relations with schools in the areas of outreach and recruitment, processing, evaluation and validation. UC San Diego is one of the nation's most highly selective public universities with almost 90,000 applications annually.

Prior to her work at the University of California San Diego, Mara served as the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Services at Boise State University for five years and a concurrent role as the Interim Vice President for Student Affairs at Boise State University for one year. Previously, Mara served as the Director of Admissions and then Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Services at Southern Oregon University, the Assistant Director for Undergraduate Admissions at Arizona State University, the Assistant Director for Undergraduate Admissions at Northern Arizona University, and held various student affairs roles at the University of California, Irvine in the early stages of her career.
