The Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services would like to welcome some new faces to our team.

Lorianna Mapps
Director of Admissions Processing, Office of Admissions

Lorianna oversees the processing of undergraduate applications and application materials for freshman, transfer, visiting, and former students (domestic and international). Her area also evaluates applications for admission decisions.

Lorianna has worked at UH in various positions over the past five years, including interim director of admissions processing, operations analyst, and assistant director of transfer and internal admissions. Originally from Bryan, Texas, Lorianna received her Master of Science in Student Affairs and Higher Education Administration from Indiana State University. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in English at Texas A&M University.

Renee Alsander
Office Coordinator, Urban Experience Program

Renee joined the team on Monday, June 16, as the office coordinator. In her role, Renee will provide oversight to the front desk and reception area operations, provide direct support to the director, manage the student membership profiles and database, coordinate a number of member services, and provide assistance in the supervision of the student employee staff.

Prior to joining the Urban Experience Program, Renee served as a home office policy administrator and agency support specialist for First American Title Insurance. In this role, Renee trained employees on department policy, developed computer programs for maintaining policy remittance, analyzed and improved workflows and procedures, wrote employee manuals, prepared yearly financial statements, and co-developed the company’s policy processing tracking system. Renee also has worked with the Houston Community College Policy Department as a security officer and a department secretary. Renee has her Associate of Science in Business from Houston Community College and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development from the University of Houston.

Renee is known for her professionalism and work ethic; she has been complimented on her willingness to help others to achieve so that in turn the team finishes strong. Renee will be a wonderful asset to the students, staff, and faculty associated with the Urban Experience Program.

Maria Villegas
Medical Assistant, Health Center

Maria has worked as a medical assistant in primary care and occupational medicine for over 12 years prior to joining the UH Health Center in June 2014. Her main passion is to provide the best quality care for her patients. She’s compassionate, genuine, and has a strong patient advocate. Maria’s long-term career plan is to continue her education to advance in the nursing profession.

Jeanette Garcia
Medical Assistant, Health Center

Jeanette has worked as a medical assistant in medical and social services settings for over 10 years prior to joining the UH Health Center in June 2014. Her previous job was at the Healthcare for the Homeless Houston Center where she provided care for Houston’s homeless population. She always shows compassion, empathy, and respect toward her patients. She goes above and beyond to assure her patients’ needs are met. Her long-term goal is to continue education for advancement in the medical and nutritional fields.
